Jean Delvare fee42795a2 Synchronize the sensord version with the lm-sensors version. We're
using the same version number for sensord since October 2002!

Jean Delvare 042532f7fb Delete grab_busses.sh, it's deprecated. Use sensors --bus-list instead.

Jean Delvare 8f352d518c New sensors option: --bus-list. This option lists i2c buses that are
used by sensor chips on the running system, in a format suitable for
sensors.conf. This is a replacement for the old, broken grab_busses.sh
script. Benefits of having this directly in sensors:
* It lists only the i2c buses that are relevant to sensors.
* sensors is installed by default, while most people didn't have
  access to grab_busses.sh.

outdated anyway.

Jean Delvare 0c24a60643 Drop the CONFORMING TO sections from the man pages. lm-sensors is in no way
an official standard so it doesn't make much sense. Instead, use the 4th
field of .TH to mention that these tools are part of lm-sensors.

Jean Delvare 5524486161 Add support for hardware monitoring chips on SPI buses.
SPI bus statements in the configuration file are not yet supported, as
SPI buses don't have a name attribute yet, it's not possible to identify
them and thus no substitution is possible.

Jean Delvare f430b0991a Chip types can no longer contain dashes. This makes it possible to
rewrite sensors_parse_chip_name() with a simpler algorithm. The new
code is smaller by about one third, and twice as fast on average
(5 times as fast in the most frequent case "foo-*".)

This closes ticket #2221.

git-svn-id: http://lm-sensors.org/svn/lm-sensors/branches/lm-sensors-3.0.0@4677 7894878c-1315-0410-8ee3-d5d059ff63e0

Jean Delvare edb42b3c16 Add a new function to libsensors doing the opposite of
sensors_parse_chip_name(). sensors_snprintf_chip_name() converts
a chip name from its internal representation to a human readable
string. So far, each user program had to reimplement this function.

MAKEDEV to create them.

Jean Delvare cd0b8c3489 Delete fancontrol.pl. The reason given when it was added was that the
bash implementation was spawning too many child processes, and that
was true, but this has been addressed since. And I don't particularly
enjoy maintaining two scripts doing exactly the same thing.

Jean Delvare 759098c8f8 Use linear interpolation instead of quadratic to choose PWM values.
This is simpler and will work better in most cases. For example this
should address at least part of ticket #2224. It seems that quadratic
was used to lower the average noise level, but I don't think this is a
valid reason. The new MINPWM and MAXPWM parameters will also let the
user control the noise level if really needed.

Jean Delvare 59a0831fa6 More cleanups to fancontrol:
* No longer depend on grep. We already depend on egrep so let's use it
everywhere.
* Don't depend on awk to compute the target PWM value. Bash has an arithmetic
expression evaluation engine which does the job just fine.
* Use read instead of cat to read the sensor values. read is built-in, so
it's cheaper.
* When sysfs is used (2.6 kernel), do not postproces the sensor value reads
with cut, as it is not needed.
* Update the dependency list.

Jean Delvare b33986c2ac Support and use the new I2C block read with variable length which will
be available in Linux kernel 2.6.23. Binary compatibility is guaranteed,
source code compatibility isn't, but the incompatibility will be
spotted quickly as the prototype of the helper function
i2c_smbus_read_i2c_block_data() changed. The only problem would be if
a program is calling i2c_smbus_access() directly. Hopefully this should
be a rare case. The py-smbus binding code is in this case and will be
adjusted soon.
