- Reduce size of `helpers.c`, for linking against new `initctl` tool,
by moving out functions to `pid.c` and `exec.c`
- Add `AF_UNIX` API to Finit, to complement old `/dev/initctl` FIFO
- Let old FIFO API be used by init/telinit: `init <q | 1-9>`
- Move all advanced initctl code from `client.c` to `initctl.c`, yes
its a bit confusing to call the *new* tool the same as the old FIFO
but this is more in line with what, e.g Upstart does.
- Move all advanced server side code from `plugins/initctl.c` to `api.c`
- Update TODO with upcoming inetd syntax change and dynamic events.
- Temporarily fix display of inetd services from `initctl status -v`

This patch further extends the capabilities of the client with the
ability to control the running state of services:
finit <stop|start|reload|restart> JOB
Since services can now exist with multiple instances the concept of
"jobs" is introduced in this patch. A job is a numeric identifier of
the form `NUM[:NUM]`, the latter `:NUM` is the new instance syntax
introduced earlier. See the output of `finit status` for the JOB id.
Also, with the introduction of multiple instances we broke support for
multiple related inetd services. This became obvious when the shiny new
`finit status` was tested ... hence, this patch also contains fixes to
the inetd support.

Further refactoring of the client code. Supported commands:
- debug: Toggle PID 1 debug flag
- version: Show Finit version or custom header string
- reload: Reload config files in /etc/finit.d/, same as SIGHUP
Also supported is the legacy 'init q' command, to reload config.
The 'status' command now supports an optiona '-v', either as an
argument to init itself, or as argument to the command. When it
is given 'status' lists verbose information about all services.
Currently only the service arguments are listed.

When a user changes runlevel, or wants to reload the config, we want the
command to return only when the operation has completed. For instance,
rolling in a new system configuration in runlevel 1 requires that we are
sure we've actually entered that runlevel before rolling it in.

This patch adds support for a configure script and with it
support for disabling inetd support. See the output from
./configure --help

Most systems need an early bootstrap phase for one-shot tasks and
necessary one-time probing. This phase usually runs well before any
networking is setup. This commit adds support for that 'S' runlevel,
and also extends the number of possible total runlevels to nine.
For the one-shot tasks that run in bootstrap two new finit.conf cmds
have been added:
- task: For one-shot tasks that can be started in parallell
- run: For one-shot tasks that must run in sequence

Like most other init implementations do, when entering runlevel 1, finit
creates the file /etc/nologin to prevent users from logging in during
single-user mode, this file is then removed upon leaving runlevel 1.
Also, bugfix how FIFO I/O plugins are handled in finit. A FIFO will
need to be reopened by the server side when the client closes the pipe.

The run_parts() implementation used variable arguments in a bad way,
resulting in it not working properly. Replaced va_*() code with a
simple cmd argument that's passed to each script called.
Also, the opendir()/readdir() code has been replaced with scandir()
using regular alphasort(). This simplifies the code somewhat as well.
Otherwise, minor cleanups.

Sometimes people type in the wrong path to a service directive in
finit.conf, or the executable isn't installed. This commit makes
sure to check if the command exists before attempting to start it.
This also means that we now require service commands to start with
/ to indicate an absolute path. We used to search the PATH for a
suitable executable, using execvp(), but that's rather insecure as
well, so we now use only execv().
Also, added support for adding "start" or "stop" to entries found
in /etc/finit.d starting with SNNname, or KNNname, where NN is a
number. This makes it possible to simply import sysvinit style
start scripts from /etc/rcS.d and /etc/rcN.d/.
The alsa-utils plugin also had some minor fixes, added -g option
to ignore non-existing soundcards and fixed cut-paste bug on the
_d() debug messages.

This has been something I wanted to avoid, but then I stumbled so hard
on it myself I simply had to add it. With this commit finit actually
comes of age -- it's now possible to do anything a modern init can --
only faster! :-)
Included in this commit is the OpenBSD version of sys/queue.h, which
unline all versions of the same file on Linux has the _FOREACH_SAFE
macros for iterating over a linked list.
The plugins are now in a TAILQ, loaded in alphabetic order and, unless
the dependency resolver says otherwise, added last in the queue. So,
naming your plugins according to standard sysvinit rules: S01, S02,
etc. takes care of the most basic dependency resolution. When that is
not sufficient, simply add a line ".depends = { "other_plugin",
"another_plugin" }," to your plugin_t definition. Be careful though
for circular dependencies, we don't check for those.

Restructure start by calling the plugin loader earlier. This makes it
possible to run hooks even earlier. This also adds a new hook:
HOOK_ROOTFS_UP which runs as soon as the system root (/) is available.
Another very notable change is the slow refactor of helpers.c into a finit
helper library called libite.so (-lite). This is a light-weight

The installation path for plugins was encoded wrong in the finit binary
if *not* unset, i.e., "prefix=".
Updated the README with information on all build related environment
variables. Much of it is perhaps only needed for packagers and
distributions.

Tried to solve the signal.h name clash by using #include_next, but
seeing as this is not recommended[1] and breaks builds on some cross
compilers, the files were simply renamed: signal.[ch] --> sig.[ch]

Due to time constraints I had to revert the new libev backend to the
service, I/O and signals monitor. Employed instead is the tried and
tested signals based service monitor, with a small extension for an
additional I/O monitor using poll() for the I/O plugins to use.
Tried restoring the startx finit.conf directive on top of the service
implementation. However, it's currently not usable to run /usr/bin/startx
for any other user than root. I recommend using the examples/finit.conf
and run /usr/sbin/gdm instead.
finit.c:
New run_loop() function, replaces libev ev_run().
helpers.c:
Refactor start_process() into svc_start().
plugin.c:
Add fds[] array for use in the io_monitor() called by the
new run_loop().
signal.c:

Lots of cleanup and simplification of the main code in this commit.
Most notably libev has been added to take care of the main loop and
monitor services. Still TODO is migrating to use the libev signal
handling.
Convert initctl.c:listen_initctl() to a plugin instead. This also
meant introducing a new form of I/O plugin to finit, also handled
by libev.
Load plugins *after* we've setup the base filesystem (BASEFS) in case
plugins reside on a filesystem not reachable before "mount -a" has run.
This also has the side effect of lining up nicely with the first level
plugin hooks.
If a plugin wants to hook up with a loded service we connect them by
their respective numeric IDs in plugin_register(). I.e., the service
monitor checks if a service has a registered callback, which in turn
decides if a service should be started, stopped or reloaded.
Rip out old EeePC distribution defines from finit.h, none of it really
applies anymore. If you need distribution specific settings this is
the place to put them.
Make hookpoint names (#defines) clearer: after BASEFS, after networking,
after all setup, etc.
Use #inlude_next <signal.h> in signal.h to include system header file!
Simplify service monitor: move essential code to svc.c and rip out
the TIPC dependency. Write your own service.so plugin, or wait for
a more complete example of how to extend service monitoring using
the primitives in svc.c
